Mumbai – During World Vegan Month (November), and after more than 48% of Indian respondents to a survey said they consumed animal-free food out of concern for animals, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India is naming the winners of this year’s PETA India Vegan Food Awards. WickedGüd, backed by Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, nabbed Best Vegan Snack for its crave-able VeganVibe Snack Fusion, Best Vegan Milk was awarded to Millet Mlk Original from Nourish You, whose investors include actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, while Fast&Up, backed by actor Varun Dhawan, won Best Vegan Protein Powder for its delicious Rich Chocolate Flavour Plant Protein.

The other winners are listed below:

  • Best Vegan Sweet: Almond House’s Kaju Pista Roll
  • Best Vegan Yogurt: Yoogutty Original Cashew
  • Best Vegan Meat: Desi Treat’s Plant-Based Mock Chicken
  • Best Vegan Ice Cream: Alphonso Mango Millet Ice Cream from SIRI – House of Vegan Ice Creams
  • Best Vegan Cheese: NatureOnus’s Vegan Cheese – Mozzarella for Pizza
  • Best Vegan Butter: Plantaway’s Bttr!
  • Best Vegan Egg: Vegan Scrambled Egg from Vezlay Foods Pvt Ltd
  • Best Vegan Ghee: One Good’s prodigee
  • Best Vegan Candy: Assorted Fruit Marshmelts from Kandee Factory

“From Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI)-backed vegan millet ice cream and nutritionist-designed vegan yogurt to beloved traditional sweets crafted entirely without animal products—these winners are setting a new standard for compassionate and healthful choices,” says PETA India Manager of Vegan Projects Dr. Kiran Ahuja. “PETA India is encouraging everyone to opt for the many vegan foods and drinks available today, which taste delicious while sparing animals suffering and protecting the planet and our health.”

Pigs recognize their names, chickens learn from watching one another, some fish woo potential partners by singing to them, and cows develop friendships over time and even hold grudges against others who mistreat them.

Globally, an estimated 92.2 billion land animals alone are slaughtered every year, and most of them are raised in severe confinement. Chickens exploited for their eggs are kept in cages so small they can’t spread their wings; male piglets and others are castrated without painkillers, and fish are yanked out of the water and crushed, suffocated, or cut open and gutted, all while they’re fully conscious. Cows and buffaloes are crammed into vehicles in such large numbers that their bones often break before they’re dragged off to the slaughterhouse once their milk production wanes.

In addition to saving animals’ lives, PETA India notes that vegan eating slashes the risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity and helps fight climate catastrophe by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

PETA India—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAIndia.com or follow the group on XFacebook, or Instagram.
