Ahmedabad – To provide relief during the scorching heat, a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India supporter dressed as an “Ice Queen” will appear in a cloud of fog to hand out free scoops of vegan chocolate ice cream from the classic brand Keventers to passers-by, along with a message encouraging them to “Beat the Heat With Dairy-Free Treats!”

“Each dairy-free scoop is cold, creamy, and delicious,” says PETA India Manager of Vegan Projects Dr Kiran Ahuja. “PETA India encourages everyone to scoop up vegan ice cream that is kind to animals, the environment, and human health.”
As the majority of Indians suffer from gastric ailments or other health problems due to allergies to cows’ milk and as awareness of animal welfare and environmental issues grows, the Indian market for vegan milks, ice creams, yogurts, and other non-dairy products is projected to reach US$175 million by 2027. A Credit Suisse Research Institute survey revealed that Gen Z and millennial consumers in the country are more likely to buy sustainable items, which explains why a growing number of businesses in India are responding with vegan goods.
In addition, the dairy sector often supplies the beef industry with cattle to kill. The United Nations states that meat, egg, and dairy production is responsible for nearly a fifth of human-induced greenhouse gas emissions.
PETA India awarded Keventers a Best Vegan Ice Cream award in 2023 for its exciting flavours made from coconut milk. PETA India has urged Amul, another brand that sells dairy, to consider producing vegan milks.
