Ashima Kukreja, Chief Corporate Affairs Liaison, PETA India said, “These days, consumers are increasingly rejecting products derived from cruelty to animals. And so, designers and brands are responding with stunning plant-based leathers, luxurious cruelty-free personal care products and soft vegan silks. This year’s winners are proving that living vegan has never been more accessible or stylish. PETA India proudly honors compassionate artists and businesses making the world a kinder, more compassionate place.”
Amar Nagaram, CEO and Co-Founder, Virgio said, “We are deeply honored to receive the Vegan Fashion Award from PETA India. Animal cruelty remains a menace in fashion, with countless animals killed for leather and fur every year. At Virgio, we are committed to breaking this harmful cycle by creating cruelty-free, sustainable fashion. It’s crucial to start this conversation and make ethical fashion more mainstream. This award inspires us to keep proving that style and compassion can go hand in hand, while raising the bar for conscious fashion.”
PETA entities have released numerous videos revealing that workers hit, kick, and mutilate sheep for their wool during shearing; leave goats with bloody, gaping wounds at mohair and cashmere operations; slit the throats of cows and buffaloes for leather; ram metal rods down conscious crocodiles’ spines in the exotic-skins industry; suffocate, electrocute, and bludgeon animals to death on fur farms; and boil silkworms alive to produce silk. PETA India’s investigation into Mumbai’s Deonar slaughterhouse found appalling cruelty to animals for leather.
PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAIndia.com or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
